US-based ride-hailing giant Uber Technologies has tightened its work-from-home rules following a major round of corporate job cuts. The company recently eliminated nearly 10% of its global corporate workforce, affecting around 3,300 employees. Under the revised policy, only about 1% of corporate employees will be allowed to work fully remotely, while most staff will be required to report to the office at least three days a week.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi informed employees about the changes through an email, asking those currently working remotely to relocate to areas where they can collaborate more closely with their teams. The company has established dedicated hubs in New York and San Francisco and wants managers and their direct reports to be based in the same locations. Uber said the move is part of efforts to streamline management, remove unnecessary layers and review investments across its ride-sharing, delivery and robotaxi businesses. The policy applies only to corporate employees and will not affect drivers or other operational staff.
