Supreme Court Slams Notice Issued to Greater Noida Student Over Protest Participation

The Supreme Court has expressed strong displeasure over a notice issued by the Greater Noida Executive Magistrate to a student in connection with alleged participation in CJP protests. The court questioned the authority for issuing the notice despite its earlier directions that students across the country should not face coercive action in connection with such cases. The matter came before the court after the notice was subsequently withdrawn.

The student was reportedly issued the notice on September 4 on allegations of spreading information against the government and encouraging students to participate in a CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. The authorities withdrew the notice the following day. During the hearing, senior advocate Bishwajit Bhattacharyya sought the Supreme Court’s intervention to ensure that such incidents do not recur. The court took note of the issue and questioned the conduct of the executive magistrate.
