A powerful typhoon named Bavi has intensified in the southeastern Pacific region, prompting large-scale evacuations in eastern Zhejiang province of China. Nearly 1.7 million people were safely relocated on Saturday as authorities issued a red alert warning for heavy rainfall across multiple regions. The storm has already caused strong winds and torrential rains in southern islands of Japan and Taiwan, while intensifying rainfall in the Philippines. At least 17 people have reportedly died in southern Philippines due to the severe weather conditions.
The typhoon, moving at a speed of 144 km/h, is heading toward northern Taiwan, according to officials in Taiwan and the Philippines. Emergency response and rehabilitation efforts are being ramped up across major cities, including the capital Beijing. Weather authorities confirmed that Typhoon Bavi made landfall along the Zhejiang coast at around 11:20 AM on Saturday. Officials also noted that this is the ninth typhoon to hit China this year, highlighting an unusually active storm season.
