Modi Government Is Weakening ISRO - Jairam Ramesh

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has accused the Modi government of weakening the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He alleged that the government is aggressively expanding the role of private companies in the space sector while limiting ISRO’s role in key activities. Ramesh also raised concerns over the organisation’s autonomy and institutional capabilities.

Ramesh claimed that ISRO’s direct involvement in launch vehicles, satellites and space missions is being gradually reduced as production activities are shifted towards private industry. The criticism comes amid reports that more than 100 ISRO scientists have resigned or opted for voluntary retirement in recent months. The Department of Space has tightened exit rules for personnel involved in critical missions, highlighting concerns over retaining specialised expertise.
