A three-storey building collapsed near Chandni Chowk Metro Station in Old Delhi on Thursday morning, leaving two people dead and several others feared trapped under the debris. After receiving information about the incident, police personnel and rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched relief operations. However, the narrow lane where the building is located has made rescue efforts challenging. Local residents said construction work was underway inside the building and suspected that it may have contributed to the collapse.
The incident comes amid a series of building-related accidents in the national capital. Two days ago, a portion of the Delhi Municipal Corporation’s Town Hall in Chandni Chowk collapsed following heavy rainfall. In another recent incident in the Milan Garden area, an old house collapsed while an additional floor was being constructed, killing two people. The repeated incidents have triggered fear and concern among residents over building safety in Delhi.
