Tender Controversy at Yadadri Power Plant!

A fresh controversy has emerged over the tenders floated by Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited for coal and ash handling works at the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant in Damaracherla, Nalgonda district. Engineers are reportedly opposing the move to hand over the works to private agencies at an increased cost. They are demanding that even if the execution is outsourced, supervision should remain with GENCO engineers, as is reportedly followed at other power plants.

According to the details, BHEL had reportedly quoted ₹360 crore for the coal and ash handling works, while it was asked to undertake the project for ₹180 crore. The latest tenders, however, are reportedly aimed at awarding the works to a private company for around ₹250 crore. GENCO officials are said to have decided against assigning supervision to engineers citing serious corruption allegations involving an engineer at the Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant. Three companies have reportedly qualified in the tender process, and one of them is expected to be selected soon.
