Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that the state government is committed to increasing green cover to 50 percent as part of its long-term environmental sustainability goals. Participating in World Environment Day celebrations at the Andhra University Engineering College Grounds in Visakhapatnam, the Chief Minister emphasized that environmental imbalance is becoming increasingly evident through extreme heat waves, cyclones, and other climate-related challenges. He called upon citizens to actively participate in protecting nature and ensuring ecological balance.
The Chief Minister planted a sapling on the university campus and directed Andhra University officials to increase green cover from the current 25 percent to 50 percent. He proposed transforming the campus into a net-zero model by promoting solar energy, waste-to-energy initiatives, composting, wastewater recycling, and biodiversity conservation. Later, Chandrababu Naidu led a bicycle rally through Visakhapatnam to create awareness about environmental protection. Accompanied by Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, public representatives, officials, and local residents, the Chief Minister covered a distance of around 5.5 kilometers in 21 minutes.
