The Supreme Court has examined petitions challenging the income criteria fixed for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota. During the hearing, the court reviewed the recommendations of the Pandey Committee and the guidelines related to EWS eligibility.
The bench observed that the annual income limit of ₹8 lakh prescribed under the EWS criteria is reasonable. The court has adjourned further hearing of the matter to August 11, with more arguments expected during the next hearing.
