Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi has shared interesting memories of her early days in the Gandhi family, including her first experiences with Indian food and traditions after marrying former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In her upcoming autobiography, Belonging: A Journey of Love, scheduled for release on November 10, she reveals that she first tasted tandoori chicken with Rajiv Gandhi. Recalling the experience, Sonia describes how the bright red, slightly charred dish initially tasted extremely spicy. However, she gradually became accustomed to the family's food habits and began enjoying meals with them. The publisher has shared excerpts from the book on social media.
Sonia also recalls the family's regular meals, which typically included rice, phulkas, a vegetable curry, and either mutton, fish or chicken, while toor dal was a daily staple. She also writes about her experience of wearing a saree, describing it as one of the most beautiful garments in the world. For her engagement, she chose a dark green and light yellow saree, which she secured with several safety pins. For her wedding, she wore a saree made from yarn spun during Jawaharlal Nehru's imprisonment. These personal recollections offer a glimpse into her early experiences of Indian culture and family traditions.
