Setback for Telangana Government as Supreme Court Dismisses SLP

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the Telangana government’s Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging a Telangana High Court verdict in the 40-acre Lothukunta land dispute in Hyderabad. A Bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Sheel Nagu heard the plea filed against the High Court order favouring Shanta Sriram Constructions Private Limited. The court took note of the 219-day delay in challenging the High Court verdict, observing that the normal period for filing an appeal is 90 days. The Bench declined to condone the delay and dismissed the petition on limitation grounds.

The Telangana government had approached the Secunderabad City Civil Court in 2021 seeking a declaration that the 40-acre property at Lothukunta was government land. The suit was rejected on limitation grounds. The State subsequently challenged the decision before the Telangana High Court, whose Division Bench upheld the lower court’s order on October 7, 2025. The Supreme Court dismissed the State’s SLP without examining the merits of the underlying land dispute, citing the delay in filing the challenge.
