The Madras High Court has reportedly dealt a setback to the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister Vijay, holding that government jobs provided to the families of those who died in the Karur stampede cannot be sustained. The court questioned whether similar employment would also be offered to families of people killed in bus accidents.
The High Court observed that government employment cannot be distributed as a benefit at the government’s discretion and stressed that such decisions must remain within constitutional limits. It further cautioned that unchecked government action could lead to arbitrariness and disorder, underscoring the need to follow established rules and constitutional principles while making public appointments.
