At a protest held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, filmmaker Satyareddy, director of the film King Buddha, demanded that Buddha Jayanti be declared a national holiday. He strongly reacted against remarks made in the past by preacher Garkapati about Gautama Buddha and issued a stern warning against any further disrespect towards Buddha. He stated that false propaganda against Gautama Buddha will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Satyareddy described Gautama Buddha as “Shakya Simha” and emphasized that his life represents a great saga of peace and wisdom, not mere stories. He also highlighted that nearly 25 countries following Buddhism are progressing in peace and development. He urged India to embrace Buddhist principles again for peace and growth, calling Buddha Jayanti a “National Day of Respect.” Supporters at the protest also demanded national holiday status for Buddha Jayanti and announced plans to expand the movement across the country.
