Review ‘The Paradise’ Ticket Price Hike.. High Court Suggests to Government

The Telangana High Court has suggested that the state government reconsider and examine the withdrawal of the memo permitting a hike in ticket prices for The Paradise, which is scheduled for release on September 24. Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar heard the matter on Tuesday. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the memo permitting the hike was issued contrary to statutory provisions and that the reasons for the increase and details of the film’s budget had not been disclosed.

Government Pleader Mahesh Raje informed the court that the memo had been issued in accordance with the recently issued government order. The judge observed that applications seeking an increase in ticket prices should be submitted at least 90 days before a film’s release. He noted that placing such applications in the public domain in advance would allow objections to be raised. The court also observed that issuing memos just two or three days before a film’s release had become a practice. It suggested that the Principal Secretary of the Home Department reconsider the memo and examine its withdrawal, and adjourned the hearing for four weeks.
