The Telangana government is exploring the establishment of modern silos to ensure the safe and efficient storage of paddy procured from farmers. Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Captain N. Uttam Kumar Reddy held a special review meeting with officials, technical experts and representatives of concerned agencies at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat in Hyderabad. The discussions focused on the feasibility of the project, technology requirements, construction costs and maintenance procedures.
Under the proposed plan, each silo centre will have a storage capacity of one lakh tonnes of paddy. The government is considering setting up 10 such centres across the state, which would provide a combined storage capacity of 10 lakh tonnes. The proposed facilities will also include grain cleaning and drying systems before storage. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on gunny bags, minimise storage expenses and help preserve grain quality. Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra, Additional Director Rohit and other officials attended the meeting.
