One of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema, Ramayana, is making a strong impact at the box office. The film features Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Kannada star Yash as Ravana. Released on November 5 amid huge expectations, this visual spectacle crossed the Rs. 200-crore mark in worldwide gross collections within just two days, according to the figures provided. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film has become a major talking point among trade circles. It collected a net of Rs. 64.85 crore in India on its opening day. However, as the second day was a working Friday, collections dropped by 25.9 per cent to Rs. 48.05 crore. With this, the film’s two day domestic net collections reached Rs. 112.90 crore, while the India gross stood at Rs. 134.80 crore.
The film is also performing strongly in overseas markets, earning a gross of Rs. 35 crore on its second day and taking its two-day overseas total to Rs. 86.25 crore. Its worldwide gross collections have reportedly reached Rs. 221.05 crore. The Kannada version recorded the highest theatre occupancy. On the second day, the Hindi version led the collections with Rs. 35.50 crore, followed by Kannada at Rs. 5.15 crore, Telugu at Rs. 4.75 crore, Tamil at Rs. 1.50 crore and Malayalam at Rs. 1.15 crore. These collections came from 23,316 shows across India on Friday, with more than 43 lakh tickets sold in the first two days. The film has also reportedly surpassed Adipurush, which collected Rs. 215.78 crore worldwide in its first two days. Produced by Namit Malhotra, the two-part project is reportedly being made on a combined budget of around Rs. 4,000 crore. With the first part ending with Sita’s abduction, Jatayu’s death and Rama’s vow, anticipation is already building for the sequel. The weekend collections will be crucial in determining whether the film can reach another major milestone and cross the Rs. 500-crore mark in its first week.
