The remarks made by Susmitha Patel, daughter of Telangana minister Konda Surekha, against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy have reportedly created fresh tension within the Congress. Party sources said the Chief Minister was unhappy with the comments, while the Congress leadership is also understood to be taking the matter seriously. The controversy has particularly intensified after Susmitha announced that she would contest from the Parkal constituency in the next elections.
The issue comes after Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to the erstwhile Warangal district. During his visit, the Chief Minister participated in programmes in Mulugu and Parkal and offered prayers at the Sammakka-Saralamma shrine. Konda Surekha did not attend the programmes, which became a topic of discussion within political circles. Revanth Reddy later appealed to voters to ensure a strong victory for Parkal MLA Revoori Prakash Reddy in the next election, which was seen as an indication of his continued support for the sitting MLA. The following day, Susmitha held a meeting in Geesukonda and reportedly made strong allegations against both the Chief Minister and the local MLA.
PCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party is taking Susmitha’s remarks seriously. A show-cause notice has already been issued to Konda Surekha by the party’s disciplinary committee, seeking an explanation regarding her daughter’s comments. Goud said the party would decide its next course of action after examining Surekha’s response. He also stressed that individual leaders cannot announce their own candidacies, as the final decision on party tickets rests with the Congress high command and the CWC. Meanwhile, a police case has reportedly been registered against former OSD Sumanth following a complaint alleging intimidation and assault of a businessman. With multiple developments emerging, the issue is expected to remain a point of discussion within the Telangana Congress.
