The Centre has denied permission for Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States, with the Ministry of External Affairs reportedly informing the state government that clearance was denied on political grounds. As part of the Telangana Rising initiative, the state government had planned visits to Boston, New York and other locations to explore partnerships and sign MoUs with leading institutions such as Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University and Virginia Tech. Following the denial of clearance, Revanth Reddy has decided to return to Hyderabad from London on August 23 instead of proceeding to the US. He has, however, instructed officials to continue with the proposed US programme and complete the planned MoUs and partnership agreements with the institutions.
Revanth Reddy said education, skills, the future of young people and the development of the state should be approached beyond political considerations. He reiterated his goal of transforming Hyderabad into a global hub for education, knowledge and skills. Despite the cancellation of his US visit, the Chief Minister will continue his scheduled engagements in London with representatives of Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, London Business School and the University of London. He will also meet leading sports and skills-development institutions in the UK to explore partnerships with Telangana. Revanth Reddy stressed that Telangana Rising would continue and that the future of youth, state development and national progress should remain above politics.
