Report Flags Decline in AP Government Schools

A report citing UDISE data has claimed that government and aided schools in Andhra Pradesh have witnessed a significant decline over the past two years. According to the figures, 972 schools were closed during this period, including 778 government schools and 194 aided schools. The report also states that student enrolment in government schools dropped by around 5.86 lakh, from 40.50 lakh in 2023–24 to 34.93 lakh in 2025–26.

The report further noted that the number of government schools declined from 45,000 to 44,222, while aided schools reduced from 991 to 797. These figures have triggered political criticism, with allegations that the quality of education has deteriorated and welfare programmes have weakened. The Andhra Pradesh government has not issued an official response to these claims.
