Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over repeated disruptions in Parliament, saying that the continuing protests are preventing the public from hearing the views of several talented new MPs. At a breakfast meeting with more than 40 MPs from NDA allies, including the TDP, Jana Sena, NCP India, Shiv Sena, RPI (Athawale), Rashtriya Lok Morcha, AIADMK and UPPL, Modi sought to reassure newly inducted members that the NDA would stand firmly behind them. He also advised MPs to practise yoga and undergo regular health check-ups, while assuring them of support for development works in their constituencies. The Prime Minister reportedly interacted individually with every MP and shared reports on their social-media activity. The meeting assumes significance as the government is preparing to advance key legislative measures, including those concerning women's reservation and delimitation.
The meeting also brought together several MPs who had recently switched political affiliations. Twenty Lok Sabha MPs from the Trinamool Congress reportedly joined NCP India in June, while six MPs who left the Shiv Sena (UBT) joined the Shiv Sena. Three Muslim MPs—Khaleelur Rahman, Yusuf Pathan and Abu Taher Khan—who had missed two NDA Parliamentary Party meetings also attended the breakfast meeting with Modi. Separately, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Modi at the Prime Minister's Office in the Parliament complex. Although details of their discussion were not disclosed, the meeting has fuelled speculation about a possible BJP-SAD rapprochement ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde also held a separate meeting with Modi.
