Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant has called for financial support to help talented students from economically weaker backgrounds pursue legal education and build careers in the legal profession. He stressed that financial assistance should not be limited to their years of study but should also extend to the first three to five years of their legal practice.
He noted that early financial support can help young lawyers establish their professional identities and overcome initial challenges. Justice Surya Kant also highlighted the importance of guidance from senior advocates, stating that their mentorship can significantly shape the careers of junior lawyers. He emphasised that young legal professionals have a crucial role to play in improving access to justice and providing better legal assistance to people in district courts.
