Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan attended the Ruby Jubilee celebrations of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences as the chief guest and praised former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao for his lasting contribution to medical education. He said the establishment of the university reflected NTR’s vision and marked a historic step for the sector. Highlighting the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047, Radhakrishnan stressed the need to expand access to higher and medical education. He also noted that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the number of medical colleges and MBBS and postgraduate medical seats had increased significantly over the past 12 years. According to his address, MBBS seats had risen from 21,000 to 1.2 lakh.
The Vice-President called for greater emphasis on advanced medical research and solutions for life-threatening diseases such as cancer. He expressed hope that the university would produce Nobel laureates and that its students would gain international recognition for their research. With artificial intelligence and digital health becoming increasingly important in medicine, he encouraged students to develop their knowledge and skills. He also emphasised compassion and empathy in patient care and urged doctors and young people to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug use. Along with academic knowledge, he said, students should develop communication and teamwork skills. He called on the university to continue contributing to the strengthening of Andhra Pradesh’s healthcare system.
