Mumbai Police have foiled an alleged plot to distribute poisonous capsules during Muharram celebrations after a vigilant woman alerted authorities. The accused, identified as Faiyaz Premji, was arrested, and police seized nearly 15,000 capsules allegedly filled with zinc phosphide, a highly toxic rodenticide. According to investigators, 11 people reportedly fell ill after consuming some of the capsules but are now said to be out of danger.
Investigators allege that the suspect distributed the capsules by presenting them as painkillers, immunity boosters, and even chocolates. Police are examining the motive and the extent of the alleged conspiracy. Officials also stated that zinc phosphide is an extremely toxic substance with potentially fatal effects, and further investigation is underway into how the capsules were prepared and whether others were involved.
