Jawaharlal Nehru served as Prime Minister from 1947 to 1964 for a total of 6,130 days. However, he became an elected Prime Minister only after the first general elections in 1952, serving 4,398 consecutive days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took office on May 26, 2014, will complete 4,399 days as elected PM on June 10, surpassing Nehru’s record.
With this milestone, Modi is set to become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in Indian history. Indira Gandhi previously held the record with 4,077 consecutive days. Having served as Gujarat Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014 and now as PM for a third term, Modi has also been credited with several welfare-driven governance initiatives.
