The Central Government has expressed its in-principle approval for the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project and is willing to proceed with a 50:50 cost-sharing model between the Centre and the State. Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy stated this after meeting Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting focused on key urban development projects in Hyderabad, including the proposed expansion of the metro network.
The Centre assured that it would take a final decision after reviewing the Detailed Project Report and technical details submitted by the State Government for the proposed 162-kilometer expansion. Discussions also covered the Musi River rejuvenation project, under which 39 sewage treatment plants worth ₹3,975 crore have been sanctioned under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. These plants will have the capacity to treat 972 million liters of sewage daily, significantly improving urban sanitation. Khattar also assured full support for Hyderabad’s infrastructure development. Earlier, Kishan Reddy paid a courtesy visit to President Droupadi Murmu.
