The Tamil Nadu government has taken an important decision in response to the shortage of LPG gas. Due to the ongoing conflict in Iraq, concerns about gas supply have increased across the country. As the central government has restricted the supply of commercial LPG cylinders, many hotels and food preparation units have started using electric stoves instead of gas.
Considering the situation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin held a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat. To support hotels, tea shops, cloud kitchens and small businesses (MSMEs) affected by the gas shortage, the government announced a discount of ₹2 per unit on additional electricity usage.
This benefit will apply to hotels and food production units that are using electric stoves instead of LPG. The Tamil Nadu government said the subsidy will continue as long as the restrictions on commercial gas usage remain in place.
