The Karnataka government has said it will decide on the issues raised by sugarcane farmers after a central committee visits the state. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar stated that the government would take a decision following the committee’s visit. The committee, led by Ramesh Chand, is scheduled to arrive in Karnataka on October 29.
Farmer leaders have demanded that the state announce a State Advised Price (SAP) of at least ₹1,000 per tonne of sugarcane. Meanwhile, Shivakumar said the state would strongly urge the Centre to increase the minimum selling price of sugar. Farmers are now awaiting the outcome of the committee’s visit and the government’s subsequent decision.
