Jharkhand Police Arrest Top Maoist

In a major breakthrough against Maoist insurgency, Jharkhand Police have arrested top Maoist leader Misir Besra, a Central Committee member of the banned outfit. The 65-year-old, a native of Harladi village in Giridih district, was wanted in more than 80 cases across Jharkhand, Odisha, and other states. A reward of over ₹2 crore had been announced for information leading to his arrest. Following a special operation launched on March 31, security forces apprehended him in the Maniyadi area under Barwada Police Station limits in Dhanbad district. Two other Maoists were also arrested during the operation.

Misir Besra was considered one of the country's most wanted Maoist leaders and played a key role in leading operations across the Kolhan, Saranda, and Jaraikela forest regions. Investigators allege that he was instrumental in planning military and political strategies and in raising funds for the Maoist network through extortion. Officials believe his arrest has dealt a significant blow to the Maoist organisation, particularly its Eastern Regional Bureau.
