JD(U) senior leader Shyam Rajak has reiterated the party’s opposition to the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Bihar. He said that although the party supported the UCC Bill in Parliament, it would not agree to its implementation in Bihar. Rajak said the party’s position on the issue had already been made clear by JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar.
Rajak made the remarks after Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the UCC would be implemented in all NDA-ruled states by 2029. However, on September 15, JD(U) leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said the party would first examine the provisions of the UCC Bill before taking a decision. JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha is also expected to discuss the issue with Amit Shah.
