Train travel demand has increased significantly as Vinayaka Chavithi approaches, leading to a new booking record for the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). According to IRCTC, a total of 20,06,353 tickets were booked on September 7, making it the highest number of single-day bookings in the corporation’s history. This was also the first time the 20-lakh mark was crossed in a single day.
The strong booking trend continued on September 8, when 19,50,699 tickets were booked. During last year’s festive season, the highest single-day figure was 18,40,203 tickets, meaning this year’s record is around 6 percent higher. IRCTC also said that nearly 89 percent of reserved tickets are currently booked online. With passenger demand increasing, new servers have been installed, nearly doubling the capacity for online ticket bookings.
