Iran–Oman Talks on Strait of Hormuz Move in Positive Direction

Iran has stated that discussions with Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz are progressing positively. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail confirmed that deputy foreign ministers from both countries held detailed two-day talks in Tehran. The discussions focused on ensuring that neither nation’s sovereignty is compromised while maintaining uninterrupted movement of commercial shipping. Key technical and political aspects were addressed as part of efforts to stabilize the region and avoid disruptions in global trade routes.

The talks gained momentum after the United States paused its military actions against Iran. Earlier, Iran and Oman had announced plans to discuss service charges for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which drew objections from the United States. Tensions escalated as the US launched fresh actions in the region, prompting Iran to retaliate and even declare restrictions on vessel movement through the strait. The US encouraged ships to use routes along Oman’s coast, a move that led to further friction. However, with the recent halt in hostilities, diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Muscat has intensified.
