Confusion has once again emerged over the US–Iran talks as both countries issued contradictory statements regarding the next round of negotiations. US President Donald Trump announced that discussions would take place in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Tuesday. However, Iran rejected the claim, stating that no such meeting had been finalized. In his social media post, Trump said that US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would attend the talks. Pakistan also indicated that negotiations between Washington and Tehran would resume. However, senior Iranian official Kazem Gharibabadi dismissed these claims, clarifying that only routine consultations are currently ongoing.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Qatar has agreed to release $6 billion from Iran’s frozen assets. He described the development as a significant victory for the Iranian people. At the same time, reports suggest that Indian representatives, including Minister Pabitra Margherita and Governor Syed Ata Hasnain, may attend the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who reportedly died in US–Israel joint strikes. The Government of India has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
