India is witnessing an intense heatwave as soaring temperatures continue to make life difficult across several states. According to data released by air quality and weather tracker AQI.in, the world’s top 50 hottest cities on Friday morning were all located in India. Temperatures crossed 40 degrees Celsius even before noon in many regions, with Odisha’s Balangir recording the highest temperature at 45 degrees Celsius. Cities such as Chandrapur in Maharashtra and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh also reported extreme temperatures touching 44 degrees Celsius.
Several regions in Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh are facing severe heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department had already issued red and orange alerts for northwestern and central parts of the country. Medical experts warned that dehydration and heatstroke cases are rising rapidly, especially among outdoor workers, children and elderly citizens. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during afternoon hours and stay hydrated by consuming more fluids.
