A case of alleged land registration fraud has surfaced in Telangana, where a Secunderabad resident claims he lost ownership rights over his property after fraudsters used another individual with a nearly identical name to execute forged transactions. The victim, Modepalli Malyadri, who purchased a 200-square-yard plot at Abdullapurmet in 2001, discovered through an Encumbrance Certificate that the ownership had been transferred in 2026 without his knowledge.
According to the complaint, brokers allegedly brought another person from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, altered a letter in his surname and father's name, obtained duplicate registration documents after claiming the originals were lost, linked them with Aadhaar details, and later sold the property to a third party. The victim has approached the police and the Inspector General of Stamps and Registration seeking cancellation of the fraudulent registration. Senior officials confirmed that a complaint has been received and an inquiry is underway. The incident has also renewed calls for a robust alert system to notify registered owners whenever changes are initiated on their property records.
