Hyderabad has been identified as one of the world's 30 most heat-vulnerable cities, according to a recent study conducted by the University of Oxford. The city recorded a Heat Vulnerability Index score of 0.68 in the research, which assessed 205 cities across the globe. The study highlights rapid urban expansion, declining green cover, and increasing dependence on air-conditioning as major factors contributing to the growing heat crisis.
The report also revealed that Hyderabad experienced extremely high temperatures this year. Between April 1 and June 5, the city recorded temperatures above 40°C on 47 days, marking the highest such occurrence in the past decade. Experts warn that sustainable urban planning and increased green spaces are essential to mitigate future heat-related risks.
