Hyderabad has emerged as the top city in India with the highest middle-class population, according to a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Tata Sons. The report highlights that while cities like Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Delhi lead in terms of average household income, Hyderabad stands out for its rapidly growing and dominant middle-class segment, making it a key driver of urban consumption and economic activity.
The study also notes that Delhi NCR remains the largest consumption hub in the country, while cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi continue to be major wealth centers. Additionally, the top 100 cities in India contribute to more than one-third of the country’s total income and consumption. The report further reveals that extreme poverty is gradually disappearing in leading urban centers, indicating steady economic progress.
