After one of the driest June months in over a century, India’s southwest monsoon is showing strong signs of revival. Meteorologists indicate that the next 15 days will be crucial as multiple weather systems, including two simultaneous low-pressure areas over central India and the Bay of Bengal, are expected to significantly strengthen monsoon activity across the country.
The revival has already begun along the west coast, with Kerala, coastal Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra witnessing heavy rainfall. The moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea are expected to intensify rainfall over the Western Ghats. From July 1–2, widespread rain is likely across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Northern states like Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and Haryana may also experience thunderstorms and showers. The IMD confirms conditions are becoming favorable for the monsoon to advance further, bringing much-needed relief after a 40% rainfall deficit in June and supporting delayed agricultural activities.
