HDFC Bank has stepped up the process of appointing its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The move comes as current MD and CEO Shashidhar Jagdishan is scheduled to retire next month. The bank has submitted the names of two candidates to the Reserve Bank of India in order of preference for a proposed three-year term. The appointment will be subject to the RBI’s final approval.
HDFC Bank has not officially disclosed the names of the two candidates recommended to the central bank. However, market sources are speculating that the list could include former HDFC Bank Deputy Managing Director Paresh Sutankar, K. Balasubramanian, Citi’s Chief Country Officer for India, Aditya Birla Group CEO Vishakha Mulye, HDFC Bank Chief Credit Officer Jimmy Tata, and HDFC Life MD and CEO Vibha Padalkar. The final decision will depend on the RBI’s approval.
