The Union Government is reportedly intensifying efforts to secure parliamentary approval for the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill on Lok Sabha delimitation during the upcoming Monsoon Session. According to political sources, the proposed amendment would retain the 2011 Census as the basis for delimitation while increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats by approximately 50% across all states, with the stated objective of preserving the existing balance of representation. The ruling alliance is said to be engaging with various political parties to build the required support for the constitutional amendment.
The proposed legislation has become a key political issue ahead of the Monsoon Session, with both the ruling coalition and the Opposition preparing their respective strategies. Reports indicate that several parties are assessing the proposal, while the government is exploring consensus through discussions with allies and other political groups. If the constitutional amendment is eventually passed and implemented, it could pave the way for the next phase of constituency delimitation and the implementation of women's reservation in future Lok Sabha elections, subject to the provisions of the law.
