The Mines Department in Andhra Pradesh has intensified its focus on identifying and extracting gold deposits across the state. Officials have preliminarily estimated that gold mineral reserves may exist in more than 1.5 lakh hectares, prompting accelerated exploration efforts. While gold mining and production are already underway in Jonnagiri of Kurnool district, authorities are now expanding their attention to Annamayya, Chittoor, Prakasam, and Sri Sathya Sai districts for further exploration.
The department is planning to carry out mining activities in four stages—G1, G2, G3, and G4—to ensure systematic exploration. These initiatives will be undertaken with support from the National Mineral Exploration Trust NMET. Officials stated that once the quantity and quality of gold reserves are confirmed, further steps will be initiated. The move is expected to boost the state’s mining sector, attract investments, and create employment opportunities.
