

Veteran actress Sowcar Janaki is reportedly in critical condition due to respiratory-related health complications. According to reports, the 95-year-old actress was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai about a week ago. Her condition reportedly worsened on Wednesday night, following which she was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit. She is said to be receiving treatment on a ventilator under the supervision of doctors, with her family and fans concerned about her health.
Born in Rajahmundry in 1931, Sowcar Janaki made her acting debut with the 1950 Telugu film ‘Shavukaru’, which went on to become synonymous with her name. She has acted in nearly 400 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam cinema and worked alongside legendary actors including Sivaji Ganesan, M.G. Ramachandran and Gemini Ganesan. In recognition of her contribution to the arts, she was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2022.
