As the Eid al-Adha festival, popularly known as Bakrid (May 28), approaches, goat markets across the country are witnessing a sharp rise in prices. Increased transportation costs, higher fodder prices, and strong festive demand have driven prices up by 20% to 40% compared to last year. Traders in major livestock markets report that demand has significantly intensified in the run-up to the festival, pushing rates to new highs.
Currently, small-sized goats weighing around 20–25 kg are being sold in the range of ₹11,000 to ₹25,000. Meanwhile, medium-sized goats weighing between 30–50 kg are priced between ₹20,000 and ₹50,000, depending on breed and quality. With only a few days left for Bakrid, experts believe prices may continue to remain high due to sustained demand and limited supply in several regions.
