Sixteen transport and delivery workers' unions have called for an indefinite statewide strike beginning tomorrow, affecting auto-rickshaws, cabs, lorries, and app-based services, including Ola, Uber, Rapido, Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, and Instamart. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) said the protest aims to press the Telangana government to address the long-pending issues of drivers and delivery workers.
The unions have demanded that the government notify a fair base fare along with per-kilometre and per-minute charges for app-based transport services. They have also sought the immediate notification of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Rules, the formation of a Welfare Board, full implementation of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines-2025, and a ban on using private (non-commercial) vehicles for app-based passenger and goods transport without commercial registration.
