Ratna Singh, the legal affairs chief of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), may face criminal contempt proceedings over her social media comments concerning a Delhi court magistrate. The Delhi government's Additional Standing Counsel has granted consent to initiate proceedings following a lawyer's request seeking action against Singh. The matter stems from her detention during a CJP protest on October 10. Following the incident, Singh allegedly accused the Saket Court magistrate of acting on someone else's instructions.
The Additional Standing Counsel observed that Singh's remarks went beyond criticism of a judicial order and raised concerns about the magistrate's independence and impartiality. The comments were considered serious enough to warrant consideration under criminal contempt proceedings. However, the consent only clears the way for the legal process to move forward. It does not establish Singh's guilt, and no finding of criminal contempt has been made against her at this stage.
