Counting of votes for assembly elections across five states—West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry—has begun amid tight security arrangements. The process started at 8 AM with postal ballots being counted first, followed by EVM votes. Strict protocols are in place, including a complete ban on mobile phones inside counting halls and heavy deployment of central security forces at all counting centres.
Tamil Nadu, with 234 seats, requires 118 seats for a majority, while Puducherry has 30 seats with a majority mark of 16. Assam has 126 seats with a majority of 64, West Bengal has 294 seats with 148 needed for majority, and Kerala has 140 seats with a majority of 71. Re-polling has also been ordered in one Bengal constituency, with results scheduled later. Political parties across states are closely watching the counting trends.
