FCV Tobacco Production Cut for Next Season

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to reduce the permitted production of FCV tobacco for the 2026–27 market season, Agriculture Minister Achchennaidu announced. The permitted quantity will be reduced from 142 million kg in 2025–26 to 81 million kg in 2026–27. He said the decision was taken to regulate production in line with market demand and prevent surplus production in the future. The Tobacco Board will create widespread awareness among farmers to ensure cultivation remains within the permitted quantity.

For the current season, tobacco production was estimated at 142 million kg, but actual production reached 236 million kg, the minister said. So far, 86.59 million kg has been marketed through 132 auction days. The average price recorded so far is ₹209.83 per kg. The highest prices were ₹329 per kg in the NLS region, ₹255 in the SLS region and ₹252 in the SBS region.

The minister said the proportion of no-bid bales at auction centres has declined significantly, helping around 10 million kg of tobacco to be marketed every week. The government is focusing on aligning production with market requirements and avoiding excess supply, while ensuring farmers are informed about the permitted production limits for the next market season.
