The proposed Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR), a key infrastructure project expected to transform connectivity in the Capital Region, has reportedly undergone major revisions before receiving final approval. Concerns have emerged after reports indicated that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed removing the Tenali–Kaza spur road and scaling back certain service road provisions to reduce project costs. The ORR project was originally planned as a 189.4-kilometre six-lane highway with service roads on both sides, along with dedicated spur roads connecting key urban and capital-region locations. The initial proposal carried an estimated cost of ₹38,450 crore.
According to reports, the proposed revisions could reduce the project cost to around ₹32,000 crore by excluding the 17.5-kilometre Tenali–Kaza spur road and eliminating service roads on the outer side of the ORR. Infrastructure experts and regional stakeholders believe these changes could affect future connectivity between Amaravati, Mangalagiri, Tadepalli and the ORR corridor. They argue that long-term transportation requirements should be considered before finalizing the project. The proposal is expected to move through further approval stages before reaching the Union Cabinet for final clearance, prompting calls for state leaders and public representatives to seek a comprehensive review of the proposed modifications
