A civilian aircraft entered the temporary flight-restricted airspace around Camp David in Thurmont, Maryland, on Saturday, September 19, while President Donald Trump was staying at the presidential retreat. NORAD said an F-16 fighter aircraft intercepted the plane at about 7:50 a.m. EDT after it violated the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR).
During the interception, the F-16 deployed flares to attract the civilian pilot’s attention. NORAD said the aircraft was then safely escorted out of the restricted area. Authorities had announced the TFR over Thurmont for September 18–20 and reminded general-aviation pilots to check FAA Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) before flying.
