The Bhogapuram International Airport, named after tribal freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, is set to become a major gateway for North Andhra. Developed by the GMR Group, the greenfield airport is expected to significantly boost the economy, tourism, and connectivity of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts.
The airport has been designed to handle 6 million passengers annually in the first phase, with expansion capacity of up to 40 million passengers in the future. Its long runway can accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747. It will also feature a modern cargo terminal for exports, six-lane highway connectivity, future metro and beach corridor links, and eco-friendly features including solar power and zero wastewater recycling.
