Doctors at Osmania General Hospital successfully performed a rare liver transplant on an 18 month old child suffering from a glycogen storage disorder. The child, weighing 10 kilograms, underwent a complex surgery in which a portion of the father’s liver was transplanted.
The critical operation lasted for 14 hours and was provided completely free of cost under the Aarogyasri scheme. Doctors said the child’s condition is stable after surgery. They added that such procedures are very rare in government hospitals. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha congratulated the medical team.
