Kavita Mahto, a resident of Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, has suffered a setback in her dream of securing a government job. She had earlier drawn widespread attention for completing a 1,600-metre race barefoot while wearing a saree. Kavita finished the run in 8 minutes and 57 seconds, comfortably within the prescribed time limit of 10 minutes, earning praise for her determination.
However, she failed to clear the high jump test during the Jharkhand Home Guard recruitment process despite receiving three attempts, resulting in her disqualification. Following her husband’s death, Kavita has been raising her two children while also supporting her elderly in-laws. She had hoped that a government job would help her provide financial stability for her family. Her experience highlights the challenges faced by candidates who pursue employment opportunities while dealing with significant family and financial responsibilities.
